Focus Area: Salt Water Disposal System
Project Objective: To reduce the oil & solids loading in the effluent stream sent to the disposal wells. This effluent stream is a by-product of desalting operations for Canadian heavy oil & in-situ production.

Project Objective: To optimize the Desalting Operations and determine if with process optimization the desalter throughput can be increased by 15% and still maintain acceptable performance. Alternatively provide solutions and procurement options.

Project Objective: To optimize the Desalting Operations and provide solutions to achieve the targeted Dehydration and Desalting Efficiencies at the current and planned throughput increase. Also, provide solutions to reduce filterable solids loading to downstream units.

Focus Area: Oil Sands Froth Treatment Operation
Project Objective: To perform an audit of the froth treatment operation and provide solutions & implementation plans to reduce: 1) water & filterable solids loading in the oil sent to the Upgrader and 2) solids accumulation in the separation tanks.

Project Objective: To provide solutions and plans to improve the reliability & integrity management of the existing and upgraded DGA Amine Systems.

Focus Area: MEA Amine System
Project Objective: To investigate and provide mitigation recommendations to improve the equipment reliability and integrity of the MEA Amine System.
Technology Applied: DBR Amine Simulation Tool (AMSIM T)

Focus Area: Crude & Vacuum Units & Cooling Water System
Project Objective:
- To review and assess the corrosion and fouling mitigation, monitoring, and
inspection programs for the Crude & Vacuum Units & Cooling Water System,
and identify areas for improvements.
- Assess the impact to the equipment reliability & integrity upon a 10
to 15% plant throughput increase and update the Risk-Based Inspection Program.
- To investigate the failure of a Crude Unit Overhead Exchanger.

Site: Shell Scotford Upgrader
Focus Area: Residue Hydroconversion (RHC) Unit, Heavy Oil Stripper, Hydrotreater
Project Objective: To review the Residue Hydroconversion ( RHC ) Unit, Heavy Oil Stripper, and Hydrotreater operations and indicate areas of the operation that are at risk due to the following operational problems: 1) Foaming & Emulsions and 2) Corrosion & Fouling. If these risks were present, then the problem mechanisms were identified and monitoring protocols recommended; also, typical applications used to mitigate these risks were provided.

Focus Area: High Pressure Boilers, Condensate System & Cooling Water System
Project Objective: To optimize, monitor, and manage the chemical programs designed for corrosion, scaling, and fouling reduction within the HP boiler operating units and within the pretreatment, condensate, and cooling water systems. Also commissioned with: performance evaluations for operating equipment; monitoring program development; and trouble shooting analyses for process corrosion / scaling / fouling.

Focus Area: Steam Generation (Co-Gen) Plant
Project Objective: To evaluate performance, acquire data, monitor process parameters, and provide recommendations for improvements to the water pretreatment system of the Steam Co-Generation Plant.

Focus Area: Oil Emulsion Pipeline
Project Objective: To identify corrosion & fouling mechanism(s), effective mitigation & monitoring programs and equipment inspection techniques for oil emulsion pipelines. Also, identify the root cause and mitigation strategy for oil well elbow failure.

Project Objective: To investigate the root causes of an oil emulsion line failure located at a joint connection.
